Overview

The "Investigator-Initiated Research in Genomics and Health Equity" grant (R21 Clinical Trial Optional) is aimed at supporting pioneering research by investigators in the fields of genomics and health equity. The ultimate objective of this initiative is to explore and devise innovative approaches, create and share data, and establish metrics or interventions. All of these efforts would be aimed at promoting the fair and equitable use of genomics to enhance health outcomes in U.S. populations.

Beneficiaries of this grant will be expected to conduct original, broadly applicable research in genomics and health equity which aligns with the scientific areas of National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). Furthermore, they will need to devise strategies for incorporating diverse and inclusive perspectives in their work.

The grant encourages applications from diverse New or Early Stage Investigators. This particular R21 Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed to support small-scale research projects which can be implemented within a short time frame and with limited resources. It is intended to aid the progression of diverse New Investigators towards research independence.

The types of projects supported by the R21 grant mechanism include pilot and feasibility studies, secondary analysis of existing data, self-contained research projects, and development of new research technology or research methodology.
