Overview

The Vet-LIRN Capacity-Building Project and Equipment Grants (U18) aims to offer financial support to veterinary diagnostic laboratories within the Vet-LIRN network. These grants are designed to help labs achieve specific objectives and goals including:

1. The support and acceleration of new methods connected to animal food issues or problems associated with antimicrobial resistance. This might involve the creation, adaptation, or verification of these techniques.

2. Fostering short-term surveillance or monitoring schemes that align with the mission statement of the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM).

3. Provision of necessary equipment for undertaking tests associated with animal food-related problems or antimicrobial resistance. The grants also cover tests for emerging technologies.

4. The creation and development of projects that relate to the responsible and controlled use of antibiotics (antimicrobial stewardship), which mirrors CVM’s primary initiatives in this area.

5. A contribution to Vet-LIRN's Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) monitoring program, which includes sequencing isolates.

6. Aid in projects that deal with the concept of One Health, a multidisciplinary approach that involves the close collaborations between physicians, veterinarians, and other scientific-health- and environmentally-related disciplines. This includes work related to emerging diseases like COVID-19, pending the availability of funding.
