Overview

The Collaborative Opportunities for Multidisciplinary, Bold, and Innovative Neuroscience (COMBINE) is a grant program that aims to sponsor groundbreaking neurological research. This program is a reissue of a previously released grant (RFA-NS-22-011) and is updated to comply with the latest DMSP policies. There are no changes to submission deadlines or review locations.

This funding opportunity is specifically meant to promote integrated and collaborative research efforts by teams of three to six investigators (PDs/PIs). It is designed to encourage brave and impactful explorations in neuroscience within the boundaries of the NINDS mission.

An important condition of this grant is that the research project must be interdisciplinary. The research team is expected to set a common objective that necessitates collaboration, synergy, and well-coordinated team interactions. Rather than being a collection of standalone studies or parallel projects, the proposed research should present a unifying purpose or vision.

COMBINE differs from the NINDS P01 program in that it supports a singular, fully integrated research plan with one set of objectives, presented in a single budget without any sub-projects. Research teams are urged to set transformative goals with concrete outcomes that can be achieved within a 5-year period.
