Overview

The grant, named "Interventions for Stigma Reduction to Improve HIV/AIDS Prevention, Treatment and Care in Low- and Middle- Income Countries" (R01 - Clinical Trial Optional), aims to address and mitigate the effects of HIV/AIDS-associated stigma, with an impact on the prevention and treatment of the disease, as well as on the life quality of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH). There are specific areas of interest for this initiative, including:

1. Innovative means for measuring HIV-associated stigma - including intersecting stigmas related to other potential coexisting health concerns - to deliver improved interventions.

2. The investigation of stigma in relation to adolescent and youth health.

3. The impacts of stigma on family members or caregivers of PLWH, as well as the aging PLWH population.

4. The development and testing of novel stigma reduction interventions to encourage care-seeking behavior and decrease disease transmission.

5. Addressing the added difficulty of coping with stigma due to HIV along with one or more other coexisting health concerns.

The ultimate goal is to nurture and support research that leads to effective interventions for HIV/AIDS-associated stigma, thus improving HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and the overall quality of life for PLWH.
