Overview

The Housing Preservation Grant program provides grants to sponsoring organizations to repair or rehabilitate housing owned or occupied by very-low- and low-income rural residents. The goal is to preserve existing housing stock and ensure that rural housing meets decent, safe, and sanitary standards across eligible rural areas in Michigan. Eligible intermediary organizations include state and local governments, federally recognized Indian tribes, and non-profit organizations; individual homeowners are not eligible to apply directly. Funds must be utilized in eligible rural communities to assist low- and very-low-income homeowners or rental property owners with necessary repairs, safety upgrades, accessibility improvements, and modernization. Applicants must prepare and submit applications following the Notice of Solicitation of Applications published in the Federal Register and coordinate with the USDA Rural Development Michigan State Office.
