Overview

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Energy Unit is offering grants through the Clean Energy Workforce Development Program to strengthen and develop training programs, apprenticeships, and career pathways centered around the advancement of clean energy. The program focuses on expanding existing K-12 school energy programs and developing continued partnerships with various state agencies.

Eligible applicants are Michigan-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, 501(c)(6) organizations, and small businesses with fewer than 500 employees. Awardees are obligated to execute a grant agreement, provide monthly progress updates by phone with the program manager as needed, report program impacts addressing potential energy and cost savings, provide comprehensive documentation of expenditures (such as invoices, receipts, and proof of payments), submit payment reimbursement requests within 30 days of completing the project or activity, and participate in a one-year follow-up survey regarding continued impacts.

Eligible projects must address gaps in Michigan online databases of public and private advanced energy workforce development training for both participants and employers, increase access to wrap-around services for training participants, and build and maintain relationships with educational institutions at all levels. Eligible expenditures include contractual services, supplies and materials, and equipment items. EGLE will not reimburse any costs incurred prior to the full execution of the grant agreement.

Applicants must apply online through EGLE's designated online application system and submit the required Request for Proposals (RFP) Budget Template. Applications were posted on June 16, 2026, and must be submitted no later than August 30, 2026. Projects start on the effective date of the executed grant agreement, and all payment requests must be submitted by September 30, 2027.
