Overview

The Battery Circularity Program aims to improve how batteries are collected, recycled, and reprocessed across Michigan. It addresses end-of-life solutions for consumer single-use batteries, consumer rechargeable batteries, and electric vehicle (EV) batteries and large-format battery units. The program will evaluate current collection systems, identify gaps, improve safety practices, and support infrastructure development across the battery value chain. As part of this initiative, NextCycle Michigan will launch a special accelerator focused on battery recycling solutions to provide operational coaching, technical assistance, strategic support, and connections to partners and investors. The goal is to move promising ideas toward implementation in Michigan. The application period for the accelerator will open in Summer 2026, with additional details to be posted as they become available.
