Redevelopment Ready Communitiestechnical Assistance Match Funding

The Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) Technical Assistance Match Funding program provides financial support to eligible Michigan communities actively engaged in the RRC initiative. The program's goal is to help communities cover the costs of professional services needed to implement planning, zoning, and economic development best practices, advancing them toward or helping them maintain RRC Essentials or RRC Certified designation to foster transparent, predictable, and vibrant environments for private investment.

To apply for funding, communities must have held formal RRC engagement for at least one year, completed a Community Snapshot baseline evaluation, sustained consistent communication with their regional MEDC Community Planner, shown consistent and substantial progress on unaligned best practice criteria over the previous six months, and maintained all applicable annual criteria. Communities pursuing Essentials status are eligible for up to $30,000 in funding, while communities pursuing Certified status may request up to $40,000. Communities that have already achieved designation may request match funding for enhanced or implementation-focused projects pending funding availability.

Eligible uses include procuring professional services for items identified as unaligned in the community's RRC Community Snapshot. Common eligible projects include comprehensive master planning, downtown or corridor plans, capital improvements plans, zoning ordinance modernizations, economic development strategies, and community branding and marketing plans. All deliverables funded through the match program are expected to meet RRC Certified expectations.

Communities must first contact their regional Community Planner to verify eligibility and discuss proposed projects. Funding requests are reviewed on a rolling basis. Completed request forms must be submitted for review at least two business days prior to Monday, with RRC team funding decisions issued weekly on Mondays.
