School Resource Officer Grant Program

The School Resource Officer Grant Program, administered through the Michigan State Police Office of School Safety in coordination with education partners, supports the placement and training of School Resource Officers (SROs) across Michigan K-12 learning environments. The primary goal of the program is to promote strategies that encourage safe and secure school environments, reduce potential threats, build trust between law enforcement and youth, and improve the quality of life for students and school staff. Eligible applicants include law enforcement agencies and school districts that partner to support school safety initiatives. Participating entities are required to enter into a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or Memorandum of Agreement delineating specific officer responsibilities, school expectations, and community-oriented policing standards. Program projects support officer personnel costs as well as essential training curricula, including the Teaching, Educating, and Mentoring (T.E.A.M.) School Liaison Program and National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) courses. Applications were administered in accordance with state legislative funding cycles, and awarded recipients must maintain compliance through regular submission of Financial Status Reports and Performance Status Reports.
