NSLP Equipment Grant

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) competitively awards U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service Equipment Assistance Grants to eligible sponsors participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). The goal of the program is to allow school meal sponsors to serve healthier meals that meet nutrition standards with an emphasis on fresh fruits and vegetables, improve food safety operations, and support the establishment, maintenance, or expansion of the School Breakfast Program.

To be eligible, an applicant must be an active sponsor participating in the National School Lunch Program. Eligible entities include public school districts, public school academies, intermediate school districts, nonpublic school districts, and residential childcare institutions.

Funding must be used for equipment purchases that directly enhance the quality and safety of school meals and expand student access to breakfast and lunch offerings in accordance with USDA child nutrition guidelines.

Applications are submitted electronically through the Michigan Department of Education's NexSys grant, application, and cash management system. Applicants must have an active MiLogin for Business account profile and obtain entity access via an authorized official before preparing and submitting applications.
