Water & Waste Disposal Technical Assistance & Training Grants in Michigan

The Water & Waste Disposal Technical Assistance & Training Grants program helps qualified, private nonprofits provide technical assistance and training to identify and evaluate solutions to water and waste problems, assist eligible entities in preparing applications for water and waste disposal loans and grants, and help associations improve the operation and maintenance of water and waste facilities in rural areas. USDA Rural Development provides this funding to help small communities extend and improve water and waste treatment facilities for households and businesses, save tax dollars, and improve the natural environment.

Eligible applicants are private nonprofits that possess the proven ability, background, experience, and capacity to deliver technical assistance or training on a national, regional, or state basis.

Projects must serve rural areas and towns with populations of 10,000 or fewer, or Tribal lands in rural areas. Eligible grant funds may be used to identify and evaluate solutions to water problems related to source, storage, treatment, distribution, collection, and disposal; provide technical assistance and training to improve the management, operations, and maintenance of water and waste disposal facilities; and prepare loan and grant applications. Grant awards are reimbursement-based and operate on a one-year project period from October 1 through September 30.

Applications are submitted annually during the application window from October 1 through December 31. Single-state applications are processed through local USDA Rural Development state offices, while multi-state or national applications are submitted through the Rural Development national office. Notices of Funding Opportunity are posted on Grants.gov when the application period opens, with application guidance and forms accessible via USDA Rural Development.
