Overview

The Community Facilities Guaranteed Loan Program in Michigan provides loan guarantees to eligible private lenders to help build essential community facilities in rural areas. The goal is to improve the quality of life and promote economic development in rural communities by ensuring access to necessary services.

Eligible borrowers include public bodies (such as municipalities, counties, and special-purpose districts), community-based non-profit corporations, and federally recognized Tribes. Projects must be located in eligible rural areas, defined as cities, villages, townships, and towns with no more than 50,000 residents.

Funds can be used to purchase, construct, and/or improve essential community facilities, purchase equipment, and pay related project expenses. Examples of eligible projects include health care facilities (hospitals, clinics, nursing homes), public safety services (fire stations, police stations), educational facilities (schools, museums, libraries), and utility services.

Applications for this program are accepted year-round. The process is initiated through a private lender (such as a bank or credit union), who applies for the loan guarantee from USDA Rural Development on behalf of the borrower.
