Overview

The Rural Community Development Initiative (RCDI) provides grants to qualified intermediary organizations that will provide financial and technical assistance to recipients to develop their capacity and ability to undertake projects that will improve housing, community facilities, and community and economic development in rural areas.

Applicants must be qualified private, nonprofit, or public (including tribal) intermediary organizations that have been organized for at least three years. The program requires matching funds in an amount at least equal to the Federal grant. The intermediary organization uses the grant funds to provide technical assistance to ultimate recipients, which include nonprofit organizations, low-income rural communities, and federally recognized tribes.

Eligible projects involve capacity-building activities such as training and technical assistance to help ultimate recipients improve their ability to conduct community development programs. The application process typically involves submitting a proposal during the open funding window announced in the Federal Register.
