Fuel Transportation Program

The Fuel Transformation Program (FTP) supports the replacement of qualifying diesel vehicles, vessels, and equipment with new, cleaner versions that have low to no emissions. The program aims to mitigate oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions, fine particulate matter (PM2.5), and greenhouse gases, improving air quality where vehicles, vessels, and equipment idle and operate, particularly in heavily populated urban areas and ports, while protecting human health and supporting economic growth and climate mitigation goals.

Eligible projects include the replacement of qualifying diesel equipment across various categories: on-road vehicles (medium- and heavy-duty trucks, port drayage vehicles, shuttle buses, and transit buses), marine vessels and rail (freight switchers, Great Lakes ferries and tugs, and shore power), and off-road equipment (airport ground support equipment, port cargo handling equipment, and forklifts). Priority is placed on zero-emission solutions and projects situated in designated priority areas such as non-attainment/maintenance areas, high asthma burden areas, and Environmental Justice Areas.

Project proposals are solicited through a competitive application process and selected projects are funded on a reimbursement basis following approval of all documentation by EGLE. Applicants submit proposal materials including a Proposal Cover Sheet, Budget Template, Fleet Data Sheet, and Proposal Checklist.
