Overview

The Michigan Rail Loan Assistance Program (MiRLAP), administered by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Office of Rail, provides no-interest loans to railroads for rail infrastructure preservation and capital improvements across Michigan. The program supports Michigan's rail network as an essential modal option for moving freight and commodities efficiently throughout the state.

Assistance is available specifically to railroad operators with infrastructure in Michigan. Eligible projects include rail infrastructure preservation, rehabilitation, and improvements. Loans finance up to 90 percent of eligible project costs up to a maximum loan amount of $2,000,000.

Prospective applicants must submit completed application materials and project documentation as outlined in the MiRLAP program guidelines to the MDOT Office of Rail. However, MDOT is not accepting applications for this program at this time.
