MDARD Grants Program

Overview

The Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) program aims to build resilience in the middle-of-the-food-supply-chain and strengthen local and regional food systems. The Equipment Only Grant specifically funds the purchase of special purpose equipment to expand capacity for aggregation, processing, manufacturing, storing, transporting, wholesaling, and distribution of locally and regionally produced food products (excluding meat and poultry).

Eligible applicants include agricultural producers or processors, nonprofit organizations, local government entities, tribal governments, and institutions such as schools, universities, or hospitals operating middle-of-the-supply-chain activities. For-profit entities must meet SBA small business size standards. Projects must focus on crops and products meant for human consumption.

Applications must be submitted electronically through the MiAgGrants system. Applicants must obtain a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) and provide documentation to substantiate equipment costs, such as contracts or quotes.
