Michigan Rail Enhancement Grant Program

The Michigan Rail Enhancement Grant Program (M-REP), administered by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Office of Rail, provides funding assistance to support Michigan's rail system as a vital transportation option for commodity movements. The program's primary objective is to enhance rail assets across the state to foster freight mobility and economic vitality.

Eligibility is restricted to railroads and owners of multi-user transload facilities operating within Michigan.

Eligible projects include rail and multi-user transload infrastructure improvements designed to enhance public safety, improve operational efficiency, increase system accessibility, expand system capacity, or upgrade system conditions. Grants cover up to 70 percent of eligible project costs, up to a maximum award of $5 million.

Applicants must prepare and submit an official M-REP application along with supporting project documentation. The next call for projects is planned for Fall 2026.
