Overview

Goal/purpose: The Michigan Rail Enhancement Grant Program (M-REP) provides grants to improve public safety, operational efficiency, system accessibility, system capacity and/or system condition of the state's rail system.

Additional applicant eligibility criteria: Eligible applicants are specifically limited to railroads and owners of multi-user transload facilities.

Project eligibility: Eligible projects must improve public safety, operational efficiency, system accessibility, system capacity, and/or system condition. Grants cover up to 70 percent of eligible project costs up to $5 million.

Application process: The next call for projects is planned for Fall 2026. Applicants should refer to the M-REP application and frequently asked questions for more information when the application period opens.
