Employer-Assisted Housing Fund (EAHF)

The Employer-Assisted Housing Fund (EAHF) is a state-funded initiative administered by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) designed to help employers invest in housing solutions for income-eligible households. By bringing together employers, local governments, housing professionals, and MSHDA, the program aims to ensure workers have access to affordable homes near their jobs, strengthening communities and fostering economic stability across Michigan.

To be eligible for funding, participating employers must provide matching funds through cash investments, land donations, below-market interest loans, or a combination thereof. In addition, assisted housing projects must enforce long-term affordability covenants, requiring rental housing to remain affordable for at least 10 years and for-sale housing to remain affordable for at least five years.

Eligible projects encompass various employer-assisted housing models, including employer-sponsored down payment assistance programs, land donations or ground leases for affordable development, direct real estate development or property acquisition, contributions to housing equity funds, and direct employee housing stipends or subsidies.

When funding rounds are active, applications are submitted through MSHDA's application portal and processed on a first-come, first-served basis in the order received. The application portal closes once sufficient complete applications have been submitted. The program is currently closed and not accepting applications.
