Overview

The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) Program, administered by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) through funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), assists individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness to quickly regain stability in permanent housing after experiencing a housing crisis.

Eligible applicants include local units of government and nonprofit organizations that provide homeless services and assistance. Applicants must coordinate their efforts with their local Continuum of Care (CoC), Local Planning Body (LPB), and Housing Assessment and Resource Agency (HARA).

Eligible activities under the grant include Street Outreach, Emergency Shelter, Homelessness Prevention, Rapid Re-Housing, Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) participation, and administrative costs necessary to deliver these services.

Applicants must review MSHDA ESG funding opportunities, policies, and grant management guidelines. Application submissions and coordination are conducted through local CoCs/LPBs and MSHDA grant processes. For questions or further assistance, applicants can contact the MSHDA Office of Homeless Solutions at MSHDA-HS@michigan.gov.
