Overview
Applicants must have a DNR-approved community five-year recreation plan to be eligible. To be eligible to apply for a recreation grant, the 5-year recreation plan must be submitted on or before February 1 of the application year.
Eligible projects include the acquisition of land for public outdoor recreation such as trails, picnic areas, beaches, campgrounds, boating access, and fishing areas.
The application process involves the submittal of a grant application in MiGrants no later than April 1 each year. Applications are then evaluated by DNR staff, followed by a recommendation by the DNR to the National Park Service (NPS), and final approval of the project by the NPS.
