Overview

The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) provides matching grants to states and local governments for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities, such as trails, picnic areas, beaches, campgrounds, boating access, and fishing areas. This opportunity specifically supports land acquisition projects. Applications are evaluated based on established criteria and alignment with Michigan's 2023-2027 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP).

Eligible applicants include any unit of government, including Native American tribes, school districts, or any combination of units with legal authority to provide recreation. To be eligible, applicants must have a DNR-approved community five-year recreation plan. Applications must be submitted through the MiGrants system. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) makes recommendations to the National Park Service (NPS), which gives final approval.
