Overview
Purpose: Support urban and community forestry projects in Michigan that expand and care for public trees, with emphasis on delivering benefits to disadvantaged communities. Eligibility: Applicants include local units of government (cities, villages, townships, counties), tribal governments, state agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations. Projects must occur in or directly serve areas identified as disadvantaged by the DNR IRA screening tool and align with program goals of equitable tree canopy access, community engagement, and resilience. Project types: Data collection and plan development (e.g., inventories, management plans, canopy plans); tree planting and maintenance; engagement and outreach; training and workforce development; food forests; and wood utilization. Application process: Applicants applied through the State of Michigan MiGrants system using the UCF IRA Grant Handbook and forms posted on the DNR UCF webpage. A program webinar was held Jan. 24, 2025 for applicants. Completed applications were due by 5:00 p.m. ET on 03/14/2025.
