Overview
Purpose: Support proper planting, establishment, and maintenance of community trees in areas served by DTE Energy, increasing tree numbers and diversity, promoting utility-aware planting and tree care, and advancing climate resilience, equity, and community engagement. Additional eligibility: Applicants and planting sites must be within DTE Energy service territory; applicants must not be suspended/debarred and nonprofits must provide IRS 501(c)(3) proof and required permissions; individuals and private businesses are ineligible. Project eligibility: Tree planting only on public land or land open to the public; reimbursement is limited to tree purchases; delivery, planting labor, and site preparation are not reimbursable but may count toward the 1:1 match; activities such as pruning, tree removal, and nursery establishment are ineligible. Application process: Register and apply through the DNR MiGrants system; only an Authorized Official or Agency Staff can submit; one application per organization; the 2025-26 window ran Aug 5-Sep 15, 2025, with awards by Oct 31, 2025; project completion by Sep 1, 2026 and final reimbursement due Sep 30, 2026. Technical assistance to applicants and grantees is provided by ReLeaf Michigan.
