Overview

Purpose: Support Michigan K-12 schools in launching or expanding active transportation programs so students can safely walk, bike, and roll to and from school, improving health and safety and reducing traffic around schools. Eligibility: Michigan K-12 schools and affiliated nonprofits may apply; applications are competitive and must reserve at least $7,500 per school for a Program Coordinator or other personnel. Project eligibility: Non-infrastructure activities such as walking school buses, remote drop sites, bike rodeos, curriculum and incentive programs, and other initiatives that increase safe, active travel to school. Application process: The Request for Proposals opens each January; for the 2025-2026 cycle, applications opened on 01/07/2025 and were due by 5:00 p.m. on 03/07/2025, with award notifications in late May/June. The program announces an informational session each January and publishes application materials on the program website.
