Overview

The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Mini Grant is a programming-only grant designed to encourage and educate students about how they can travel safely to and from school in healthy ways. The goal is to enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bike to school, making it a safer and more appealing transportation alternative. This helps facilitate the planning, development, and implementation of projects and activities that will improve safety while reducing traffic, fuel consumption, and air pollution in the vicinity of schools. Eligible applicants include schools with students in grades K-12, or affiliated nonprofits. Eligible projects include walking school bus programs, incentive programs, remote drop sites, bike rodeos, and more. At least $7,500 per school should be set aside for a Program Coordinator and/or personnel work. Applications are competitive and funding is limited. The application opens each year in January.
