Overview

The goal of the Michigan Volunteer Fire Capacity Grants is to assist fire departments in acquiring firefighting equipment for local communities. Eligible applicants are fire departments in rural communities with populations of 10,000 or less that have publicly-owned forested land within their protection area. Eligible projects include the purchase of firefighting equipment. The application process involves the local fire department making an application to the Division's Management Unit Office. Applications are emailed to fire departments during the application period. The Management Unit prioritizes applications within the unit and forwards them to the Division, which prioritizes applications statewide and awards grants. The fire department purchases the equipment and sends documentation to the Division for a 50 percent reimbursement up to the allocation amount.
