Michigan Volunteer Fire Capacity Grants

The Volunteer Fire Capacity Program assists fire departments in acquiring firefighting equipment for local communities. Eligible applicants are fire departments in rural communities with populations of 10,000 or less that have publicly-owned forested land within their protection area.

The application process involves the local fire department submitting an application to the Division's Management Unit Office. Applications are typically mailed to fire departments during the application period. The Management Unit prioritizes applications within the unit and forwards them to the Division, which then prioritizes applications statewide and awards grants. Grantees are typically notified of an award by December 1.
