Overview

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is offering grants through the Michigan Clean Diesel Program to reduce diesel emissions by replacing old vehicles, engines, and equipment with all-electric alternatives. The program focuses on local government fleets, recycling vehicles, compost and food waste recovery vehicles, agriculture, and irrigation equipment. The objectives are to help meet federal air quality standards for particulate matter and ozone, reduce nitrogen oxides, and facilitate a transition to less carbon-intensive transportation. Eligible projects include the replacement of diesel vehicles (Class 5-8 trucks, buses, marine engines, locomotives, nonroad equipment) with zero-tailpipe emission, hybrid, or alternative fuel versions. Projects must be conducted in Michigan, and the replaced equipment must be scrapped. Applications are accepted and processed on a first-come, first-served basis until all funding is exhausted. Applicants must submit a proposal worksheet, budget form, eligibility statement, fleet description, and other required documentation.
