Overview

Goal/purpose: Materials management planning is a program designed to guide the management of counties' materials, with an emphasis on increasing sustainable practices, such as recycling and composting, in addition to ensuring safe disposal options. Grants are available to counties for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the new Materials Management Plans (MMP) that are required per Part 115, Solid Waste Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended. Additional applicant eligibility criteria: To apply, counties should submit a work program approved by their Materials Management Planning Committee (MMPC). Project eligibility: Eligible projects include the development, implementation, and maintenance of the new Materials Management Plans (MMP). Application process: Counties must submit a 2025 MMP Grant Application, an MMP Work Program Submittal Survey, an MMP Work Program Template, and an Approved Budget Form (with narrative).
