Overview

Goal/Purpose: The Section 32p(6) Literacy Grants are designed to improve access to books and other literacy materials for children from birth to age 5. The funding supports programs such as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Reach Out and Read Michigan, or any other program that provides books and literacy materials to this age group.

Applicant Eligibility: Funding is allocated to Intermediate School Districts (ISDs) or consortia of ISDs as fiduciaries. The ISD must convene a local Great Start Collaborative (GSC) and a Great Start Family Coalition (GSFC).

Project Eligibility: Funds must be used exclusively for improving access to books and literacy materials for children birth to age 5. If funding is insufficient to enroll all interested families, ISDs must prioritize enrollment for families with the highest levels of economic need. Carryover of Section 32p(6) funds is not allowed; unutilized funds must be returned for redistribution.

Application Process: FY 2024-25 grant applications must be submitted via NexSys no later than September 15, 2024. Applicants must submit a budget and may need to provide a work plan detailing the strategies to be implemented.
