Overview

Purpose: Provide small grants to help local governments purchase fire equipment for part-time, on-call, or volunteer firefighters, improving safety and response capabilities. Eligibility: Local units with fire departments that are predominately on-call, part-time, or volunteer (more than 50 percent part-time/volunteer per the LARA Fire Service Directory) in cities, villages, townships, tribal governments, or authorities/commissions established by local governments. Project eligibility: Purchase of fire gear for firefighters (e.g., turnout gear, hard suction hoses, first aid supplies). Reimbursement permitted for eligible purchases made 08/01/2022 through 09/30/2023 with proper documentation. Application process: Applications were submitted through the State of Michigan eSignature system using Form 5874, signed by the Chief Administrative Officer, with optional supporting invoices and proof of payment; the application window ran 05/26/2023 to 07/10/2023. Treasury reviewed applications July 2023, notified awardees beginning late August 2023, and disbursed funds upon receipt and approval of reimbursement documentation beginning February 2024.
