Overview

The Michigan Maritime & Port Facility Assistance Grant Program will provide grants for maritime projects that help strengthen Michigan's economic competitiveness, reduce the cost of freight transportation, improve reliability, and mitigate the impact of freight movement on the environment. Eligible applicants include owners of a port facility for public purposes. Joint applications and public/private partnerships are allowed, provided the applicant owns, leases, or controls the property where the project will occur. Eligible projects include increasing direct port facility activity, achieving or improving green marine certification, matching federal funding opportunities, dredging waterways and harbors, repairing seawalls, transitioning to cleaner technology, infrastructure resiliency and security enhancements, modernization or expansion of facilities, construction of harbor infrastructure, and acquisition of cargo handling equipment. To apply, applicants must submit a completed application form, detailed cost estimates, plans/drawings, and a narrative (not to exceed 10 pages) addressing merit criteria such as economic benefits, environmental improvements, public benefits, project readiness, and innovation.
