Overview

The Michigan Shared Streets and Spaces (SSSG) Grant Program provides funding for quick-build projects intended to make communities more walkable, bikeable, and transit- and micromobility-friendly. The program helps incorporated cities and transit authorities reconceive their streets as civic spaces with a range of uses for people of all ages and abilities.

Eligible projects include transit-supportive infrastructure (e.g., bus stops, shelters, dedicated lanes), pedestrian and bicycle supportive infrastructure (e.g., sidewalks, crossings, bike lanes, trails), micromobility equipment (e.g., bikeshare stations), and plazas or pedestrian spaces. Projects must be located on public property or right-of-way and must be quick-build in nature, avoiding extensive environmental permitting or right-of-way acquisition. Projects must be implemented and operational by September 30, 2027.

Applications are submitted online. Each eligible entity (incorporated city or transit agency) may submit only one application. The maximum grant amount is $200,000. There is no local match required. As of January 2025, MDOT is no longer accepting applications for this program.
