Overview

The Shared Streets and Spaces Grant (SSSG) program supports quick-build projects led by incorporated cities and transit agencies that improve plazas, sidewalks, curbs, streets, bus stops, parking areas, and other public spaces in support of public health, safe mobility, and strengthened commerce.

Additional applicant eligibility criteria: Only incorporated cities and transit authorities/agencies under 10c of 1951 PA 51, MCL 247.660c are eligible. Townships, counties, villages, schools, DDAs, universities, etc., are not eligible. Incorporated cities and transit agencies may submit only one application and will only be awarded one grant.

Project eligibility: Projects must align with program goals (Innovative, Coordinated, Equitable and Accessible, Ease of Implementation, Easily Understood). Must be quick-build in nature, not requiring extensive environmental work, permitting, right of way, or design. Eligible project types include transit supportive infrastructure, pedestrian and bicycle supportive infrastructure, micromobility equipment, and plazas/pedestrian spaces. Projects on private property, requiring property acquisition, or not permanent are ineligible.

Application process: The application is a fillable online form. Applicants must demonstrate how the project relates to the goals, detail the implementation plan, timeline, measurable outcomes, and submit a project budget. Public engagement is required prior to submitting.
