Overview

The objective of the Off-Road Vehicle Safety Education program is to promote safety in the use of off-road vehicles (ORV) through education. Grant funding is made available for certified ORV safety instructors to teach ORV safety classes. Eligible applicants include colleges, universities, local education agencies, intermediate school districts, regional educational service agencies, and local government agencies in the State of Michigan. To be eligible, instructors must successfully pass a background check in addition to obtaining an ORV safety instructor certification. Grant applications and information on applying for grants are made available in June each year. Applications are due to the Department of Natural Resources by August 1. The Department reviews applications and selects grantees based on eligibility criteria. The grant period begins October 1 each year.
