Multifamily Recycling Grant

The Multifamily Recycling Grant Program, administered in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and The Recycling Partnership, aims to improve access to recycling services at apartments and multifamily properties. Multifamily communities are historically underserved regarding recycling access and face barriers such as a lack of recycling containers, insufficient signage, and turnover. This program seeks to support initiatives that increase recycling participation, improve capture rates, and minimize contamination.

Eligible applicants include local governments, solid waste and recycling authorities, multifamily housing owners, and property management organizations seeking to introduce or expand recycling infrastructure and collection operations. Priority is given to projects demonstrating effective operational approaches, community commitment, and equitable access for residents.

Projects must focus on implementing or expanding on-site recycling collection infrastructure and tailored education programs for residents in apartment buildings and multifamily complexes. Supported initiatives include container distribution, educational collateral development, and resident outreach campaigns.
