Overview

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Recycling Unit is offering grants to support recycling infrastructure projects that increase access to recycling services and grow the statewide recycling rate. The program aims to increase collection and processing capacity, improve participation rates, and build diversity, equity, and inclusion across Michigan. Eligible projects include the transition to recycling carts, new or improved public drop-off recycling, processing infrastructure, school recycling projects, collection vehicles, multi-family recycling projects, and foam recycling projects leveraging industry support. Ineligible projects include organics/food waste, household hazardous waste, scrap tires, one-day collection events, and public space recycling containers.

Applicants must be located in Michigan and fall into one of the eligible entity categories, such as municipalities, non-profits, tribal governments, or educational institutions. Projects must demonstrate proven feasibility and be 'shovel-ready.' Entities receiving $500,000 or more will be required to submit a financial audit. To apply, applicants must submit a complete response to the Request for Proposals (RFP) via the online application, addressing program objectives, priorities, and tasks, and including a detailed budget and supporting documentation by the deadline.
