Scrap Tire Market Development Grant

Goal/purpose: The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy's (EGLE) Scrap Tire Program is offering grants for scrap tire market development demonstrating a new or increased use of scrap tires in manufacturing, paving, civil engineering projects, and other applications. It also supports research on the development of scrap tire uses. Priority is given to reuse and recycling of scrap tires over use of tires as tire derived fuel (TDF).

Additional applicant eligibility criteria: Any organization physically located in Michigan is eligible to apply.

Project eligibility: Eligible expenses include the cost to purchase scrap tires from Michigan scrap tire processors or other generators in Michigan to support a market development project (reimbursement cannot exceed $133.00 per ton), the cost of purchasing equipment to support a market development project, and research and development to provide for a new or increased use of scrap tires. Ineligible projects include equipment for manufacturing or utilizing Tire Derived Fuel, projects deemed illegal, scientifically unsound projects, projects not conducted in Michigan, and projects that do not adhere to State of Michigan permit requirements.

Application process: Applicants must submit a complete response to the RFP addressing the Program Objectives and Priorities, using the provided online application format and attachments (Approved Budget Form, Detailed Timeline). Proposals must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on April 18, 2025.
