Overview

The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Scrap Tire Program is offering grants for cleanup projects that reduce the risks associated with abandoned tires. The goal is to clean up abandoned scrap tires and provide convenient access to appropriate scrap tire disposal for Michigan residents, mitigating threats to public health and the environment such as mosquito breeding and tire fires.

Additional applicant eligibility criteria: Selected applicants must use a registered scrap tire processor to complete the cleanup project and enter into a direct pay agreement with an approved Scrap Tire Processor.

Project eligibility: Eligible projects include the clean up of abandoned tires on public property, clean up of 500 or more scrap tires on private property, and scrap tire collection events for Michigan residents. Ineligible projects include work conducted before the grant agreement is fully executed, staff time and labor costs, advertising, equipment to load tires, collection of scrap tires generated by businesses and farms, and clean up where a viable, liable party exists.

Application process: Applicants must submit a complete grant application response addressing the Program Objectives and Program Priorities by completing the Online Application (Community Cleanup Grant or Private Property Cleanup Grant) before the deadline.
