Overview

The Charge Up Michigan Program aims to develop a Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) network to provide worry-free electric vehicle (EV) travel throughout Michigan by 2030. The program allocates funding to support the installation of qualified DCFC EV charging equipment, site preparation, networking fees, and signage. The objectives are to reduce light-duty vehicle emissions, improve air quality, and incentivize technologies that offer the greatest emission reductions.

Eligible applicants include any public or private organization located in Michigan, or those with a significant presence and experience in the state. Applicants must partner with their local electric utility provider and be enrolled in the utility's rebate program. Projects must be located at specific eligible "nodes" identified in the program's optimization reports to ensure network coverage. The charging stations must be publicly accessible 24/7, meet minimum power requirements (50kW, future-proof to 100kW), and comply with safety and accessibility standards.

Applications are accepted and processed on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is exhausted. The application process involves verifying site eligibility, securing a site host agreement (if applicable), obtaining a utility site assessment and letter of support, and submitting a complete application with equipment and installation quotes online.
